Journalism Work Experience Internship in Beijing, China

I am really, really enjoying my time here. I have done some fascinating stuff, and they have let me write about various topics.

I feel I am gaining valuable insight into the way in which a magazine is run, about how it overcomes obstacles, about how it sells itself. Writing for the magazine, I have been forced to control and adapt the way I write, which has been a very useful and necessary lesson for me.

I'm also gaining a great deal of knowledge about Chinese culture, without even having to leave the office! The team itself is great and very accommodating- they have given me lots of different tasks to do. The team - they are brilliant, so welcoming and great fun to work with.

The second best thing is the freedom they have given me.

Third best - Beijing. Fantastic city.

I love the place where I live as well! My friends in Beijing are very jealous, as they see it as the happening place!

A typical day:

Wake up at 8am. Shower, get dressed etc. Begin a half an hour walk to work. I can take the bus, but the walk is good exercise, and the bus is, well, an interesting experience. Grab lunch at 7/11 on the way.

Get to work, check emails and reply to them whilst chewing on a steamy baozi. Then begin any assignments, continue writing articles or editing them, do tasks for other people, attend meetings (which have been surprisingly interesting).

Lunch- we go to a different place most days. There are many restaurants around here, so there's no shortage of eateries. Grab a Starbucks coffee on the way back.

Get back to the office - continue working on articles, draft ideas for new ones, help other colleagues with various tasks (I even had to post jokes on our site to attract people to the magazine!).

At 5pm, work's out, and I head back to hostel, before meeting friends and grabbing some dinner.

I have attended photo shoots, promotional functions and other events, all of which have been very interesting!
